Default Alfa Romeo - Stab in the dark or not?

Well it's not really a stab in the dark as this forum knows everything.......

As many of you will know, despite my concerns a 147 was purchased....no point moaning, so on with the post.

Basically it has an issue sometimes when moving from 2nd to 3rd and vice-versa. It looks like it is a common fault with the gear selector plate, which needs replacing. Now I am rubbish when it comes to diy but have managed to do a few bits and pieces with the help of the org.

Don't suppose any of you have performed this alfa operation?

I'd love too, but I'm only just out of the dog house for writing the BM off and then spunking the insurance pay out on a CBR-rr which cost more than the car............

Who'd of thought it would have a knock sensor though - LOL.

Ok, fix it and then tell her she's in the dog house for buying the Alfa - will come in handy at some point, like a get out of jail free card!

Yeah but now my lack of skills is called into play - this forum has pictures with how to's the alfa one doesn't - arghhhhhhh!

There are a few other issues sneaking in which can be fixed by computer, now that's more up my street.......

The part which needs replacing is only about £25.

Hehe the common Alfa gear selection problem. Is it a Selespeed?

No it's not a selespeed, thankfully!

I have the instructions for doing it and the gearbox can be left in, but I like a picture or two to help me along.

If my experience with Alfa is anthing to go by, you will have to remove all body pannels form the car, the dash board, and the rear seats just to get at the gearbox (Which i believe is at the rear of the car) This will involve lots of allen head bolts that are made from Italian cheese, lots of swearing and a phonecall to the local Alfa Specialist. Other than that, its a piece of pi*s
