Default Varying Idle

Hi all,

Just wondering if it is normal for my 03 SV 650S (8,500 miles) to have a varying idle. When I sit at a stoplight it usually idles between 1,300 and 1,500 RPM, but the needle is constantly making small movements between those numbers. The previous GSX-R 600 that I owned seemed to have a very steady idle...I suppose it is due to the v twin engine versus inline four? Sorry for the weird/obsessive question just want to get to know my bike better.

Thanks

It can a little vary a little yes. There could be things making it worse like the Throttle bodies not being balanced or maybe a suction hose that isnt sealed right. But I wouldnt worry about that too much.

Idle on mine is steady, as it should be when motor is in decent tune. Balance throttles up.

Hi all,

Thanks for the helpful responses. Is the balancing of the throttle bodies urgent or can I continue to ride it for a few months and have it done at the next service (4 months from now)? The changing RPM's during idle doesn't really matter to me...I just want to make sure it is safe to continue to ride the bike, even if the TBD's need to be synchronized.

Thanks

Nah it be right to ride, won't do it any harm, just won't help fuel economy or smoothness. Get it done now it's 10 minutes of a job. Chances are there'll be a biker near you with some gauges who'll do it for you.
