Default This morning Mathew I will be...

...mostly crashing the Dullsville.

On the way to work this morning, went round one corner and felt a twitch. Thought to myself that's ice that is, better take it easy on the corners.

Going down the straight bit and next thing I know I'm on my **** sliding down the road watching the nice sparkling light display of the Dullsville sliding down the road.

Doh!!

Ice I can deal with. Black ice should be banned.

Ah well. Gear took the brunt of the impact, need to do a few repairs to the clothing. Only unfortunate thing is the bike was still ridable and I didn't hurt myself enough not to carry on to work.

In fact the gear changing has improved.

Oh dear. At least all is OK.
I was offered a lift to work last night and took it knowing that this mornings ride home might be a tad iffy......

Ooooch, but at least those panniers on the Dullsville should take the brunt of it - damn useful for Mr Honda to have included such versatile crash bungs as those!

It was a very good idea for Mr Honda to build in those huge steel crash bungs fitted to the frame. The panniers didn't even touch down (at least I don't think so). The front fairing has been squashed in a little so a bit of the old brute force will see that back in line.

Glad you and the bike are okay.

Nearly had a similar experience. My gf called me to tell me that there was lots of ice and snow. Got out and was taking it carefully round the first corner when the rear lost traction and spun up. As I was just straightening up I gave it some beans and the bike stood up and off I went.

Problem with today was that it didn't look like the gritters had been out. There was a guy at traffic lights in trafalgar square and when the lights went green his rear just spun on the spot - that is very rare in the city!

Jon

PS - Gritters I forgive you for spewing your crap all over me and rotting my bike...please come back and make the roads safe again!

I didn't head off to work until at least 8:30 to give the ice a chance to melt. The M4 wasn't too bad, but I still saw some patches of ice in the shade. Took me quite a bit longer than usual to get in.

I've ridden many years in this sort of weather and this is the first time I have been caught out. As I say, it was the black ice that got me. Going in a straight line and the front just went. Oh well.

Surely the councils must have known it was going to freeze last night. I wonder if they are even ready to start gritting the roads yet.

I didnt see any grit this morning and on the M4 I didnt get any of the usual saltyness on my visor. Think the councils got caught out today.
