Default Road Rage at the weekend

I had some give me 'road rage' at the weekend.

All very amusing (Kind of), I was travelling down a two lane stretch of road in a 30mph zone, the left lane was queuing at a stand still as a tanker was turning left into the petrol station, so I opted for the right hand lane.

After travelling along the right hand lane to bypass queuing behind a truck, the right hand lane has to filter in, at this point a white van (typical) was in the left lane and decided he didn’t want to let me in so drove 1m away from the Merc in fronts rear bumper, me having no where to go except into a barrier I pulled over and he had no choice but to give way.

The van then sits on my bumper the whole way down the hill until outside the local police station, where there is a box junction, which I braked before so I didn’t get stopped in it. This bloke then nearly went into the back of me at which point he gets out of his van screaming 'I have 4 kids in the car what are you playing at' (bear in mind the van only had two passenger seat so at least two didn’t have seat belts on).

I told him to do one and not follow so closely and drove through the box junction when the lights changed, he took offence to this and followed me erratically for 1/2 a mile, at this point my girlfriend was already on the phone to the police in the passenger seat as the bloke was clearly mental........this is when he took drastic action, he flew along the wrong side of the road and pulled across INTO MY CAR......he actually drove into me.

He then claimed he didn’t do it and continued to scream allsorts, I pointed out again he had hit my car and my girlfriend was on the phone to the police at which point he bricked his pants and drove off.

Went to the police station and apparently the van is registered to a company and not a person so they cant prosecute anyone and I cant report it as an RTC unless I want the guy to have my detail.....and neither myself of Kerry want the bloke knowing where we live. (So what happened to data protection?)

So he gets away completely free with acting like that. Now I'm not a small chap really and could have happily pounded the guy into the ground but resisted as Kerry was there.....hopefully the next time he pulls a similar stunt it will be with someone less reserved than me.

Anyway they are the joys of my saturday morning whilst trying to go shopping.

There is damage, but not enough for me warrant letting the psycho have my details. T-cut made the scratches looks not so bad and I will have to buy a touch up pen. Luckily the arches are plastic so flexed rather than dented.

I would send a letter to the company director detailing where and when it happened and if possible a number plate and description of the driver. Explain what happened and that you are placing a complaint to the police.

Demand a apology from the driver responsible or the director for the conduct of their employee in a company vehicle. Tell him/ her you will send him a bill for the damage to your vehicle.

If its a proper company (like the one i work for) he will get at least a written warning if not dismissed.

+ 1 also if you are not happy with letting the company have your details in case they get passed on, ask them to corresponde with you from a different address, maybe a work one?!

The police would not give me the company details unless I wanted to officially report it as an RTC.....at which point the bloke would get my details as well which we really dont want.

The police man did say he would be going to the company to report the issue as we did get the plate, but unless I wanted to take it further there was nothing he could really do. We did get the plate but the van was not sign written.

Phone one of the HPI checker companies and tell them you saw it for sale and wanted to check the legal keepers details matched the sellers. Once you have the company name your laughing.

It would seem that the DVLA will release information to you if you have a good reason for requesting it.

May be worth a try

Would they be aloud to give out those details? I ws thinking of doing the same with the DVLA, ring saying they keep blocking my drive and I would like to write to the company who owns the van.

I think they charge £2.50 providing you have a valid reason for wanting the details.

EDIT:

Beat me to it......I will see what the police man comes back with after he has spoken to the company, then go down this route if necessary.

IIRC when Lyn got assulted by a WVM a few years back the police sorted out the insurance side, without revealing her address to the guy for obvious reasons. It can be done.
