I've got an Eheim Classic, I was advised to get Eheim, because they do a full and comprehensive spares service, so if it breaks down you should be able to get parts for it easily from any fish shop. Also IIRC they guarantee to make spares for filters up to 10 years after they stop production of a model.

Dunno, depends on the fish and the flow rate you want. Sometimes to much flow rate can be bad. I dont know much about malawi's so can't really help you.
Is there a fish shop near to you, might be worth popping in there or you could try I also found this place pretty helpful when I was setting our tank up http://www.tropicalfishforum.net/ So maybe try a post on there ?

I personally don't like Eheims because of their stupid way of priming the system. Many hours I have wasted trying in vain to get our old one to work. Pice of cr4p.
Maybe they've improved over the years... |
