Default £130 down - wheel clamped

parked car off the road this morning on some private property - customer parking space for a recruitment agency that has closed down, is only a few doors down from where i work so thought id be alright (as can see it out my office window)

leave work,....been clamped...bugger....charge is £130 from Bristol Security Group Ltd...

make phone call, mate of a mate is on his way with blowtourch and angle grinder...for a drink (£30 should have covered it)

couldnt get the wheel off and lift over without it beng a PITA as was round the supension rod and ball joint grrrrrrrr hence the tools...

while im waiting for mr grinder/boltcrop/tourch man the damn clamper man and his compadries turn up.....so im £130 down

i know its my own fault

Who are they working for, the landowner or supposedly the shut down company? The landowner I guess. Of course it could relate to flats above as well?

Friend of mine parked outside a letting agent on St Michael's 'ill on a sunday when the place was shut and same thing happened.

On the one hand I can understand people not wanting you to park on their private proerty, on the other in cases when there is in reality no obvious reason I feel its a scam.

Bad luck. Extortionate and disproportionate whatever.

I got clamped a while back, I very nearly decided the 8 years in the nick would be worth the satisfaction.

They like to make threats that you'd be in all kinds of criminal damage problems if you had gone ahead - not sure how likely this is, but it's not as if they haven't got your no. plate is it

I would have waited them out, then attacked it at night fall. Have you checked it was a legit clampage? Up in sheffield we have some cowboys called excel parking who overturn most tickets. they just give out 100s in the hope someone will pay. (admittedly a bit different from clamping). If there was no cctv I'd be tempted to get my mate to stroll up kill the clamp ride it off to somewhere near your house while you're conveniently with the wife, report it nicked, walk the dog (find the bike) report it recovered. ****** thief must have parked illegally too the swine. Bit elaborate but I'd do owt for £130

...(except that)

Were there sufficient visible signs to inform drivers that clamping may be used?

If there were then I have no sympathy, you shouldn't have parked there - if there weren't then get down there quick and take photos and then contact the company who clamped you for a refund. If they refuse then find out where their head office and compound is and petrol bomb a few of their vans under cover of darkness.

Someone I know actually did this a few years back. Unsurprisingly the local bobbies were a bit uninterested in trying to find out who the culprit was. One copper was heard to say "Could be any one of thousands of people that lot have pi55ed off, we'd be running ourselves ragged when we have far more deserving people to help".

Would you be annoyed if someone came and parked in your drive?
