Default Recommend me a digital photo frame

Has anyone bought one for around the £50 mark that has good clear images?
I bought one for a pressie a few years ago for about £40 but the picture wasn't that clear when you looked at it close up.
It also needs to take SD cards. Any recommendations ?

There's gazillions about and I couldn't say, I got a £17 one at christmas time and it's ok for it's small size. The thing I don't get is that it was only this cheapy bottom of the range one that had a 4:3 screen, the same as every photo I've ever took or will take, who's got a widescreen digital camera??? Every other frame had widescreen screens so you're either going to have fat face pics or pics with missing top and bottom? Complete crap, certainly due to only widescreen screens being produced nowadays.

Just to complete my widescreen rant, I hate it totally. The Greeks and Romans knew 4:3 was the most pleasing ratio to the human eye, when's the last time you saw a widescreen temple???

Pete bought this one for his daughter, Mum and Dad. They all seem very happy with them. Pete's Dad also likes the fact it has a nice big digital clock when not in use.

I have a kodak one, but it cost more than your budget. It takes 90% of cards, well probably all cards if you use adapters. Its only a 7" but back then, 10" screen and such like were not available. Its brillant.

Anything under 800 dpi I found was poor quality, picture wise - I bought one for my wife for Christmas and I looked at loads of different ones going round the shops with a SD card pre loaded with pictures to try - the best one was a Hitachi one - 800 dpi 7" picture - was as good as looking at a picture on a PC monitor. It was about £80 though - it was from Currys.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I treated myself to an Avtex W102D portable TV/DVD for when I'm on hols, it takes USB and some memory cards, and will do slideshows or play mpg/wmv etc clips. It's pricey but pretty reasonable quality. (does SECAM for when in France)

There are loads of similar but cheaper portable 12V TV devices around now. I haven't looked into it recently but I bet some will do slideshows from some sort of memory device, and will give you a lot more besides, for not a whole lot more than a simple picture frame.
Here are some examples, not necessarily recommending the site, just examples.

FWIW my parents were given a (very cheap I suspect, unknown brand with un-intelligible instructions) picture frame, which simply upped and died last weekend as we were viewing some pics.

Looks good but too expensive.

I saw this one in comet today which the pictures looked clear on and it seemed pretty good. But they didn't have any in stock!

i got a cheap one and you can tell it is cheap - i then bought a sony one from amazon for about £150 just before xmas - it is top notch quality. i would reccomend spending the extras as the quality is amazing.

at the end of the day you have a camera that can do 12mp, get something that can display the quality.

it's like buying blu-ray and playing it on a CRT.
