I am looking at buying a crashed 2007 SV650.
I need advice on if im going to be getting a good deal on this or not. Its a full faired version, heres a list of damage. - Fairing badly damaged (can fix myself not an issue) - Front wheel bent - Back wheel bent - Swingarm broken - scratching to exhaust (not problem can do myself too) - Gear lever broken - Handelbars broken - One mirror missing The asking price is 2750Euros and i can get the back wheel, front wheel and the swingarm for 500Euros. So total of 3250Euros. The bike has 15000km (9375Miles). There may be small bits i have missed on the damage but those are the major things. What do you all think is this a good deal or a rip-off? Hope you can advise me! Thanks magnus |

Offer them no more than €500 and point out you are doing them a favour. Oh and with that damage list I would have suspected the Forks to be damaged too....

I got to point out that im in Holland and bikes are generally a lot more expensive, also there is no such thing as breakers here so you have to get parts privately from people selling their own bikes in pieces OR buy them new.
Also this bike is being sold by a dealer, he bought it for 2500 and obviously wants to make a profit (biggest dealer in Holland) so he doesnt mind if it sits there for a year before its sold. What i want to know is how much do you estimate that it will cost me to get it all together? (Ive seen the bike and from what i could tell the forks where not bent and there was no damage to the steering bearing or frame connection and top (sorry my english isnt very good) I will try and find a picture to show you. |

You could look at www.svspares.com who are a specialist SV breaker here in the UK - even with shipping it might be cheaper. But over here, €2000 should get you a decent bike in running order. Why not buy here and then transfer it - should be fairly easy and might not be that expensive. Only real cost would be sorting out the headlights as the UK speccd Gen 2 SV';s can be switched into kmph mode with no trouble. Or go shopping in France, or Spain and not have to worry about that.

You state that swingarm is broken. I would be extremely wary that the force applied to the swingarm to break it has not twisted the frame at the swingarm pivot. If the frame is bent, it is doubtful the bike will ever be 'straight' again.
It sounds like this bike has taken a huge impact and Soulkiss's advice on price is very good. Personally I would walk away. EDIT: Seen the pics now! The swing arm looks ok and overall the bike does not look that bad.

That sounds very expensive for 10,000 mile bike in that condition to be honest.

Thats initially what i though but if you look at the second picture (very closely sorry about bad quality) you can see that the metal has just been bent up from the corner a bit at the very end...
Hard to describe but it looks as if it has slid on the left side and part of the swingarm has bent upwards so it doesnt look like an impact. |

From your description wouldn't touch it..... too much bent ( possibly have to add discs to the butchers bill) - sounds like a lottery.
Could you not import something from over here? Could prob pick up a new one for £3500 Last edited by Sosha; 29-01-09 at 12:01 PM. |
