2 Dunno 3 Wet n Dry and Water - maybe a squirt of washing up liquid. You dont need to go back down to plastic, just key the surface - 1200 WnD should do nicely. Then just use a plastic primer as undercoat.

taking the downpipes off involves
a) attempting to take the bolts off b) swearing and cursing when you realise the exhaust studs are seized solid c) penetrating oil of vast quantities d) more swearing and cursing e) freeze and release spray f) attempting to take the bolts off g) a blow torch ....you get the picture

if you don't have a blow torch then heat guns are good

mine came out okay. Oh wait they were stainless
![]() My advice is go for the 12mm AF bolts (8mm thread) to the frame as they're the easiest and hammer in Hex sockets if you got them. And the link will go on easy enough. |

1. Use the 2 nut method (ie a 2nd nut against the original nut to lock it) to take the studs out of the head, then replace with stainless studs and nuts.
Use extreme caution as the studs will snap at the slightest provocation. Use plenty of plus gas and/or heat + freeze spay. As for the rear header pipe, I just cut through the bolt on the clamp

I really mean this, unless they come off easily and immediately;
DO NOT try harder to undo them. DO NOT try to remove the studs along with the nut. Both methods run an extreme risk of snapping the stud. Cut alongside the thread with a hacksaw or similar to split the nut and then remove it, then clean up the thread, even if only with a wire brush.
