With my SV no longer registered.. worth about £500 to the salvage company and possibly being the single thing that ACTUALLY saved me from doing something stupid.. (il leave your mind to figure out what that was) ive now dedicated my self to making it a 100% Vicious road racing tool.. i know there are many Nay-sayers amoungst us proclaiming that it wont be worth it.. and you might as well buy a faster bike.. but to me I feel this goes beyond the ££'s and going fast..but i dont give to shrugs about money.. its all material anyway.. this is about not giving up on something that helped you through the worse part of your life.. something that made you feel like you once again had a purpose.... (long deep rooted stuff)
Ive set a dead line for this project for two years from the 29th of june this year (My Bday) so when i am 25 this will be complete.. and the year after i will be signing with a club and racing in that season... that gives me two years to prep and learn and fight for the goal i have set my self.. its almost one of them pinacle points of your life test things.. but one thing is for certain.. i have to do this.. i have to race MY SV The shopping List ( this is over the course of the two years and all prices are not set in stone it could be cheaper or more but either way!! ) SV race project. in no particular order.. GSXR front end Mod.. Ohlins Shock £478.43 Race chain and sprockets. £80.00 Clutch rework or slipper clutch £500.00 max (ex fitting) Big engine bore up to 800cc £???.?? Dynojet Power Commander £250.00 Goodridge braided race brake lines £76.00 frt + rear EBC Double-H sintered brake pads. £38.00 front + rear Galfer Brake Discs.. £161.00 Techtronics race dash £595.00 Galespeed aluminium 5 spoke wheels. £700.00 front £500.00 rear Yoshimura full race exhaust system £498.00 Full race fairing + decorated £800.00 Rearsets.. up to £300 Total cost £6082.43 these are just the things that im going to purchase.. from tuesday i will be stripping the bike completely and taking off all unneeded weight. stripping off all road components but the major ones are listed above.. i will try and recuperate a little of the cost by getting rid of parts i dont need. i was going to post pics of the way my bike looked on the other thread.. but i will leave that till tuesday so i can show you propperly on here.. this thread is now going to be the point of contact for this project.. i hope that in two years time i can look back at the comments and possible support i may have recieved and know and feel like i have achieved something i feel i have to do.. then the real fun begins ![]() i know i have started plenty of threads looking for something to do with my bike.. which never really happend.. but now i have no excuse.. i cant use it on the road so.. for once it will go ahead! All comments/feedback are welcome wether negative or positive i only as that you please make them constructive at least as i want to log all that i do on here. All I will say is it is your bike, do with it what you want and make it what you want. Some will say you are wasting money, others will say in general it ain't worth it.
I say go for it (see signature), ask for product feedback and hopefully you will get the answers you require. |

I'm with you. As mentioned in an earlier thread my bike is off the road too and I am contemplating doing some mods as well (front end mainly). What I will say though is that the M4 system is supposedly the one to go for if your looking for power gains. Check out the JHS website and there is a picture of a stunning red race preped sv on there with gixer suspension and what look like marchesini wheels. Good luck.

+1 for the M4, I love mine.
Looking at your spec list I'm guessing you intend to have a go at thunderbikes? JHS were quoting me about £2k for bigbore engine work, system + sussy upgrade. But that was for a carby. The ohlins is a must, absolutely has transformed my bike, plus I have stuck with sv front end with ohlins springs and racetech emulators, also a brilliant upgrade, for roughly the same as a gixxer front, although my choice of wheels is still very limited (and fecking expensive). Dont forget to add on a spare set of wheels with wets, plus some inters. Instead of the techtronics, how about one of these ![]() Plus I'd have thought you are going to need a steering damper, never ridden a big bore SV, but mine shakes it head already. John, have you thought about what race class you are going to enter? As it's probably best getting the rules first to make sure your bike qualifies for whatever series you end up in.
Have fun, Tim |

On the pointy, according to zadar there are significant gains to be achieved moderately cheaply by boring out the throttle bodies. Might be worth a PM to him.
If you're going for ohlins shock then it might be an idea to get the gsxr forks revalved to suit. No point skimping if you're going all out on it. Regarding engine internals, I think the 800cc conversion requires a stroked crank. Lightening the alternator and running total loss electrics could be possible and save a lot of weight and also rotating mass.

Good on ya mate, do what you want..nobody else!!!!!
I've got two race SV's, both have had far too much money spent on them ![]() I can't see myslef wanting to race anything else, hence two bikes, one tuned and gsxr front end'd, one minitwin spec. Essentially I can race one of 'em pretty much anywhere!! If you need any help just shout!! Paul Turner |
