So, after much work I've finally achieved a Professional Management qualification, which is nice. *pats self on back*
As a result I get some certificates and a warm feeling of satisfaction. Additionally I have the opportunity to become a member of the Chartered Manager's Institute - a portion of the first year's fee is waivered if I join I apply within two months (fast track application). My concern is this - It would be a bit of icing on the cake if I were to become a member of the CMI as in a way, it is in part what I have worked towards so why not? I would also get some posh letters to put after my name on official paper etc and access to certain 'stuff' (see website for details www.managers.org.uk HOWEVER dot com, in reality I am uncertain if the benefits outweigh the cost and therefore nullifies any perceived 'need' to join. In other words, I don't 'have' to join as it were, and I don't really see what other real benefits I would get, never having been a member of a professional organisation. Does the fact that I am questioning this relevance mean that I don't need it so thjerefore I shouldn't bother? The expense isn't really an issue although there is always something better to spend the money on (beer for example). Views of the mighty .Org would be appreciated on this...if you've managed to make it this far through the post. Yours - at work on a Saturday. ![]()

Ermm...
I dunno. But beer is always the right thing to spend money on.

Can you join/qualify at any time now? If so I'd join up to get the letters only if I thought I was about to go job hunting, or pushing for a promotion/raise, otherwise I'd wait a bit and save some cash.

well I could be a member of the Project Management Institute...see Prince2, or ITIL Service Managerm or IT Security.
now how many of these would actually give me any financial benefit in the working world I have yet to witness. so you know where I stand ![]() |
