Default what car next?

need to replace my Altea (Golf plus with a seat badge) FR - 2L TDI 170BHP for something with a little more fuel economy as the wife is returning to work and has a 70 mile round trip. Must have 4 doors and space for 2 adults plus 1 child space for a holiday luggage and have a little street cred.

My idea so far is a 2L 140 BHP Passat SE - does about 50 combined, 13MPG more than my car so not to bad.

Anyone got any other ideas? can spend upto about 15k. I don't mind if its a year or two old if its a diesel.

Great cars, however fuel economy will be worse than the Altea - I get around 22mpg from my Impreza

The diesels have not been out for long, and I think they will be outside of budget.

Yep avoid petrol scoobies if you're interested in mpg. but if you're interested in smiles per mile I'd recommend them, I miss my Legacy
