Afternoon guy's.
As you can tell I'm just in the process of fitting a new clutch for the first time and have a few little questions to ask with pictures included. 1. Do I need to put gasket sealer on the clutch cover o ring as there was non on before? Will the pressure of the bolts be enough for it not to leak? ![]() 2. I have bought some EBC friction plates & Suzuki steel plates to replace the old ones and the EBC plates not one of them has notches for the 4 rubber bands, are the rubber bands needed? ![]() 3. I hear a lot of people going on about notches in the clutch basket causing dragging which is what I'm attempting to fix. How do I go about filing these down as you can clearly see them in another picture below for ya. Do I just smooth the edges off or file the basket right down so they are all level? ![]() Thanks for your time in advance peeps. ![]() |

Ok, i'll answer this
![]() Throw the EBC plates in the bin. I didnt take this advice and i had nothing but trouble with my EBC plates. Buy the overpriced suzuki ones. Dont worry about the notches at all. My old basket was quite notched and in the end it wasnt the problem. Sealing the clutch cover back on is one of those hit and miss things. I have had mine off a few times and todate i havent had to use sealent of any kind. Some poeple hower, have, so its trail and error. I ended up changing EVERYTHING in my clutch and it turned out to be the EBC plates. I replaced them with a used set of suzuki plates, with the rubber bands, and all was well again. No drag, a little squeal (mainly because the steels are worn and the plates were oldish) but no drag, and smooth changes. |

Right then.
After filing down the notches slightly and fitting my EBC plates and fresh oil everything seems to be ok. I have run the bike for around 5 mins sat on it and it seems there are no leaks so all good there. Just need to get it out and about now and see what the clutch action is like. The gearbox seems slicker now also as the clutch is not dragging. |
