Default Suzuki DRZ 400 - what are the differences?

Just browsing through some DRZ 400's, what's the difference between the E, the S and the SM (apart from the SM having different tyres and wheels)?

And are there any good websites/forums with this kind of information on?

the basic difference is enduro or supermoto really,

three models are available the 400e isn't for the road and a compatition version, comes without lights and number boards (has the slightly more powerful engine)

The 400s is the dual sport version and is a basic off roader but with lights (standard engine).

The 400sm is the supermoto version, comes with slightly better suspension and 17" wheels but the same engine as the S version.

Both the S & SM have wiring for (and fitted) indicators and brake/stop lights, but weight more than the stripped E model.

FYI the CCM 404ds is fitted with the DRZ400E engine and 20kg lighter than the SM & S versions ( not to mention the WP suspention, Brembo brakes, renthal fatbars & Remus can as standard..... )

HTH

Cheers Mark.

I've seen some Es with headlights and registered, I presume these are just road legal enduro versions?

well a true E is easy to spot, they saved weight by not fitting an electric start, so they are fitted with a kickstart and manual decompressor on the Left of the cylinder head.

as mine has the electric starter ( but is an E spec engine), it has it blanked off, you won't find it on either the S or SM.

and the kickstart shaft comes out where the black plug is above the clutch cover.

You after a DRZ as well!!??

I would go for the S personally, as the 'leccy start will be much easier to use.

Go for a CCM, not so many about and personally the colour schemes are pretty cool

thumpertalk.com is the best forum
think the E is electric start aswell it was only the original k which was a kickstart, but you can buy the kickstart kit for the other bikes.
The E has a better carb and cams
i used to have a highly modded drz and it was a great blast

I had a DRZ 400E, it had electric start and was lighter than the S model. I cant really remember the differences between the 2 apart from the E making more power due to different carbs, and having a lighter subframe (cant cope with pillions) and im sure there were other differances too.
