Hi All,
For various reasons, my k6 naked has been laid up for way too long (12 months +), and foolishly I didn't use a trickle charger. Predictably the battery was completely flat when i attempted to start it, so I put it on a trickle charge for a few days and it improved a lot (lighting up 3 of the four lights on the optimate). I've tried to start it a few times to no avail. It was turning over a little, what I'd describe as half a turn I suppose, but it seemed it just didn't have the juice to kick it over properly. Also sometimes it wouldn't turn at all, I would just get a rapid fire clicking from under the passenger seat somewhere (sounds like some kind of relay). I thought the best thing to do would be jump start it, so I tried just that. Again it was clicking and doing sort of half turns sometimes, but wasn't enough to fire it over fully. I suspect it wasn't getting much current from the car, because a) the leads are rubbish and b) it was hard to get a good contact on the battery with hefty big leads. Anyway, after trying for about five mins it just went completely dead, the fuel pump wasn't whirring, ingition lights not coming on or anything. When I put it away again and put the trickle charger back on it was showing nothing on the optimate, so it seems the battery was fully drained. A few days later on the optimate and it's back to 3 of 4 lights, the ignition is now back, and the fuel pump makes it's noise again, but all I get is the rapid fire clicking when i hit the starter button. Anyone had this problem before (I've trawled the site but can't find anything useful)? I suspect I'll need a new battery, but is that all it's likely to be, or is something else wrong? Any help would be muich appreciated. Tony Last edited by tonydc; 24-03-09 at 11:01 AM. |

Just sounds like you need a new battery mate. They do degrade after time and even topping them up on an optimate won't fix them then.

The clicking noise was probably the starter solenoid.
The solenoid makes contact <click>, the starter tries to draw current and the battery voltage drops. The starter solenoid drops out <click> and the battery voltage rises. Repeat.... Keith. |
