Default Think bike

It seems the police in the NW have taken it upon themselves to start a new think bike campaign. Glad to see them trying to reduce accidents, however their methods are ... interesting.

I headed up to cat and fiddle and the road was teaming with police. One section of road had
1 Van
1 Unmarked car
1 Marked Car
2 Bikes!
All fair enough though.

But they'd also decorated the road with huge fluorescent signs on accident blackspots. These huge, bright, signs were on the corners of all the tricky bends, with little stories on them. 'This corner has caused 5 fatalities in the past 10 years'.
What a stupid idea! They totally distract you, and I can't help but see the irony of the 'think bike' campaign. They perhaps couldn't have thought any less about riding when they put these up.

They're all across Derbyshire, unfortunately - seems like someone had a sign budget to waste.

At least they've toned down the policing on the C&F since yesterday

Yup they've done that up my road, causes some serious target fixation after the sign spurs you to think 'hmm wonder if all those other bikers went through that barrier'

The signs are put up by the your local Road Safety Partnership.......paid for by people who get caught speeding.

The amount of police out has been well advertised......derbyshire/Chesire/NW police have advertised that they were having a big awareness/crackdown over the eater weekend.

On the road from Owler Bar to Bakewell about 2 hours ago there was a MASSIVE sign on the side of one of those advertising trucks saying 'Bikes are not dangerous, Bad riders are'

The hidden nicely behind it an unmarked green camera van.

Dont see the point in moaning about it, they are achieving what they set out to do which is raise awareness as most people are talking about it.

I think the final count was 4, all for plates. Not totally sure though, because people were starting to sneak off by the time I got up there after a farm track route expedition and an unscheduled fuel stop

I also saw the sign board (x2 - there was another on the snake). C&F count was two marked volvos, at least 3 bikes, 2 or 3 vans and the plane. One of the guys there has got some pics of one of the vans being towed out of a ditch though, so its not all negative for team bike.

Hoping to arrange another Peaks run later this year. Hopefully we catch them on an off day and there isn't so much police presence.
