Default So i picked up my sv today :D + introduction

Well, yesterday FWIW.

Had a bad accident on my Z750, wrote it off, left me off work for 2 weeks and even just under a month later I'm still having a bit trouble to walk.

So anyway, sat in a car for 3 and a half hours to go from Thatcham (Berkshire) to Harrogate (omg Yorkshire). Bought a beautiful blue curvey (pretty good nick for a 10 year old bike, needs a decent wash which I'll be doing today )

First time on a bike since the accident.. and omg was I scared..

Not only was it a new bike, but I desperately didn't want to drop this one as well. Rode it like a little girl all the way home. First impressions are pretty good. Not sure if it's the tyres (Them Contisport attack things), or the riding position, or just me getting used to the bike, but omg... corners.... scary. Normally I have no trouble cranking it over (I like no chicken strips ) but for some reason it just isn't happening at the moment!

Either way, after 220 ish miles of mainly bolt upright riding (now my tyre is squared off a bit, great) I got home. Surprisingly good fuel economy. Was following my Dad in his 1.4 Corsa and after 150 miles the fuel light still wasn't on! I'm a bit of a fickler for fuel so I filled up.. only fit 10 litres in the tank.. so over 200 mile range if I'm reallly gentle? Was mainly at 60mph.. (and feedback?)

I really like the engine.. loads of torque, and fairly smooth! however down shifting is a bit of a new thing because my Z750 would just blip perfectly, and I'm still lurching this a little bit.

Basically I'm just really nervous.. and yeah. =/

But yay, member of the club officially now.

Haven't made a proper introduction, so a little bit about myself: The name's Jamie and I'm 17, passed test in December and CBT in September of 2008. First bike was an RS125, then I moved onto a Z750. Now I got my SV and I love it... hopefully will see some of you guys at a rideout or something sometime, but I'm the shy stay to myself kinda guy.

Fair play to you for getting back into the saddle so quick Jamie.

Also congratulations on getting the fastest SV there is, although it may be the wrong blue

Never rode my curvy at a steady 60 (4.5K revs?) for any length of time but that sounds a bit too economical, as in running lean, but that's just my opinion.

Hope you get a chance to put a few miles on it today.

Ride safe

It pulled well enough so I don't think it was running lean, it wasn't surging or losing anything, but I'll be getting it given the once over when I take it in for a general service, so we'll see. Man, I love it already. Gunna take the lowers off and fit the noisy can and scottoiler today.. Like it's better than sex, I tell you.

Not sure about those tyre's... But I know getting to the edge of the back on most tyre's is imposible and they are very pinched (I.E tyre width is a little too much for the Rim width). Not that it matters, the bike should still go round the corners.

200 miles on an SV is possible, Ive done it a couple of times on my old K5.

Enjoy it

I got 180 on a flashing petrol light so 200 is possible, i don't thrash it at all but i don't ride slowly.
Anyway, wicked, blue curvy -thumbs up-.

Welcome andcongratulations. When I bought my first SV I rode it very carfully home at a steady 60mph from North Yorkshire to Derby. Found it very economical at that speed, maybe around 65mpg.

If your tyres are conti road attacjes I've had them once and they are really good. If they are race attacks they'll have better grip but I wouldn't expect them to last that long!

Cheers Keith

Indeed they are the road attacks. Not sure it's the bike or me, but the bike seems slow to change direction.. when they wear out I'll likely go to Pilot Powers (on ebay for £165 inc delivery to my door) or the Dunlop Roadsmart. Getting the confidence back slowly, got it a bit further over today.

Liking the noisy can, even though it's a little bit "too" noisy. What's more, it seems to backfire (rarely!) on slight to closed throttle so may get it jetted to suit. Hoping not to get pulled for it, lol

Took the lowers off today, gave it a very good clean, fitted my Scottoiler that I had taken off my wrecked Z, and then after another 120 miles, found the bike was near enough as covered in flies as it was before I left! Fuel light came on, this time, at about 185miles, it was flashing. About 75 of these miles were on the motorway, still heading home from yesterday. Did about half a mile going up and down my road to make sure the oil feed pipe to the sprockets stayed where it was supposed to, and a bit more 'lower gear, more throttle riding'!

Keep thinking it's a I4, I ran into the limiter several times thinking there was more to come!! Still, it pulls really nicely and suits my "leave it in 6th" riding for most of the time.

That the one I pointed you to a while back?
Nice looking bike for a good price if it is. Some suspension mods too iirc?

I'm on some road attacks at the moment, and they're fine, give them a chance- you won't get to the edges on the back unless you intend to pull another cold tyre roundabout special though.

Enjoy the return to two wheels, although I'll say don't be a fool and risk your license by not getting it restricted, try to keep it shiny side up too.
