So I decided to update the springs in my forks.
When I took the dust covers off to have a look I found that water had got in and the circlip had coroded a lot. So I thought that I may as well change the seals on the forks (and the dust covers). Everything was going well, took the spring out, got rid of the old oil (which was black). but the top part of the fork was stuck in the bottom. was not sure what to do as I thought this was ment to freely move, so I took the damper rod bolt out (using the broom handle technque) and found that the damper rod seat was stuck in the top part of the fork, and I meen really stuck. I think I can get it out, but was wondering if this should be replaced as the Haynes manual makes it sound like this part should not get stuck and should just fall out. Please Help ![]() |

The damper rod seat is the white piece of plastis yes?
I'm guessing you have taken the damper rod out and it's stuck in the bottom of the tube? If it is cover it with something soft and tap it out with a hammer or drift. Careful when you put the forks back together as it will get stuck again if you let the fork sanction slide down too fast and you need that movement in the fork when setting your air gap. I thinmk this makes sense. |

yeah, its the plastic bit.
I have managed to free it, but worried about it getting stuck again. Should this be replaced? or do I just need to be careful with it? I'm guessing that I need to mesure how much I hold it up by and keep that in mind when I fill it up with oil. |

It won't need re-placing.
When you start putting the fork back together and slide the inner tube down to tighten the damper rod bolt just move it down very slowly so it won't get stuck. Keep checking that the fork moves and that it has not stuck when popping in your oil and it should be fine. If your fork gets stuck while re-assembling get hold of the bottom between your feet and pull the top with your hands this should free it up. |

If it's the bit I think you're thinking of, it will get stuck and will be fine.
