Default Exhaust repacking

Need to repack my exhaust at the weekend as it is annoyingly loud. Got me some packing a and a rivetter, but thought I'd check what size rivets do people use, before buying a big box of rivets.

Tool came with 4 adpaters:

3/32"
5/32"
1/8"
3/16"

Does it vary from exhaust to exhaust?

I'm a rivet virgin

yes it does vary between exhausts, check the size you've got currently fitted (probably 3/16), and make sure to get steel rivets and not alu ones ( as they will wear very quickly and come loose).

Cheers Mark.

My Akrapovic has 3/16" i.e. 5mm ones. I went to the bother of finding stainless blind-ended ones, which you need to be the Hulk to use by comparison to ally ones. Had to repack the can just over a year later so am wondering if it was worth the bother of SS rivets!

PS. If you're drilling out the existing stainless ones, you could do with a cobalt tipped bit, keep the speed low (cordless drills are good for this) and splosh a bit of water on it - you need to keep the temperature down otherwise the stainless hardens and destroys your drill bit.
