Default Trip/Odo problem

Right, i thought i'd ask this in here as i can't work it out for love nor money.
Bike: Kawasaki Z750 04
Problem: On turning off the ignition after a ride and then turning back on again the trip resets itself to zero and the clock keeps resetting itself to 1pm.
Now when i checked it yesterday it was OK, so i've eliminated any battery issues, could it be shorting out somewhere? but if that was the case would it do it whilst riding?
Or could the problem lie within the ignition system as it only appears to happen when turning the bike on/off?

Any offers of electrical wizardy will be gratefully recieved.
TIA
Cuffy

Sounds more like a storage of information problem. Would that not indicate the ECU?

Battery backup or some sort of capacitor in the clocks themselves ? that keeps all this in check . Some bikes can retain the memory for a little while when the main Battery is disconnected .

Used to have a Z750 (04 one as well) You sir have a nice bike.

I had this issue as well and it was when the battery dipped below a certain voltage (would happen when I tried to start it). Try a new battery just to make sure.

Cheers chap, i've just put it on charge to see if that works.
Also wired up the optimate whilst i was about it.
If not i'll buy a new battery and start afresh.

I started it up in the morning and it was fine. Went to work and parked it up as normal, wouldn't start. Boss bump started me no problem. Went for a looooooong ride home. Started next morning fine. Rode about a bit and went home. Next morning it was dead again.

It may seem ok but chances are the battery is just had it. How old is it (the battery)?

Not sure on the age of battery as i only just got it, i've had no problem with it starting, turns over 1st time every time.
We'll see what happens in time.

Could quite possibly be the permanent live from battery to clocks has failed or corroded.
