Default fuel tank crack

Just had a nightmare today. Whilst finally figuring out how to de restrict my 99 curvy blue, the next door neighbour came out and said hi, as i got up to say hellp i dropped the tank on the floor, never! didnt think anything of it until i smelt petrol. it looks like there is a small hole that has appeared from the impact and the petrol is ****ing out. the hole is about 3mm in diameter towards the rear so presume close to were the last fuel would be stored. Any suggestions on how this can be fixed and at what cost etc.

cheers

A pic would probably help those in the know (not me ) i.e. if it's on the seam or just the flat

can certainly be welded but take lots of care for obvious reasons. You'll need to make sure that all fuel is removed and any vapour has had a good chance to escape before getting a welder anywhere near it.

Might well need a respray also to make good.

Easiest way is to grab/buy a spare tank from somewhere while you sort it.

its actually under the tank were it has happened so cant see it if it was welded. any idea of cost of weld, also prob could do with a respray anyway as tank is scrathed and messey when i bought it. Has anyone heard of anyway to cover it with fibreglass etc as its only a small hole or would this be just too much of a bodge job

cheers

Yes. Get it done properly and it wont leak turning you into a fireball halfway down the motorway.

Pretty sure I got it from my parents -I'm sure you could get it from Halfrauds, or I could post it to you

just been to halfords and bought some, can give it a go. went to bike service shop and they said that they get a raidator repair place to do theirs. they said it could cost up to £130 so might as well try this and if it doesnt work buy a new tank. might pop to some car garages for some qoutes too.
