Default Ever ventured as far down as Sicily?

I'll be touring the island of Sicily come May. Has anyone here ever ventured that far down? Most guys here reside in Blighty which is a bit far off but maybe other forum members live mid Europe or maybe you guys are feeling more adventureous. You could also fly there and then rent a bike. If you're interested of going the long way down let me know, maybe we could meet there. Nice weather guaranteed. Fab dinners and wines. Great twisty coastal roads too. A slice of biker heaven, just stay clear of Palermo and Catania.

No write-ups yet, too lazy I suppose but here's some pics for yer enjoyment...

GPS Sat/Nav installed and powered up via bike battery and ready to go

Valley of the Kings

Door to heaven

Here's my villa, needs some work...

Samson and Delila

The Vitruvian Man

Finger food

Packing up for the next bit...

Checking that everything's nice and tight

A break for a photo outside Cefalu

We stopped here to watch the locals tearing it down the road. Pity we didn't catch any on film...

It was hot so every stop was calculated to be at a shady spot

This is halfway up Mount Etna. If ever you get to visit Sicily this is one road you shouldn't miss.

This is as high as we could get up there, yes it snows...

Mrs Z found things slippy

Brother Simon feeling on top of the world

A little island in the coast of Taormina, a very romantic place

Outside a hotel in Taormina

Mixing with the locals at a Pizza place, yummy yummy!

The SV went dead on me near Agrigento.
Changed the battery thinking it was a gonner when all it was was a faulty side stand switch.

"Yes I killed them all officer"

waiting for the ferry to get us back home, sad really.

All strapped up and ready to go

Was there from the 10th May to the 24th May. Cheated, i flew in to Catania, bus to Naxos just south of Taormina, then rented and toured from there.

Hoping to do the same next year but to Bari, then tour Puglia.

Dammit thats made me jealous seeing those pics. I was in Sicilly a couple years ago now but not on a biking thing sadly and i was ill in bed for 9 of the 11 days i was there too. D'oh!

So why did you wanna avoid Catania? I'm curious as thats where i was staying as friends were living there at the time but dont worry you wont offend them as they are back in anwerica now, lol.

That little island in Taormina was cool, the seafood in the restaurants there was soooooooo fresh.

went there in the early 80's part of my south italy trip, went over on the ferry with a mate (who I'd been working with for a couple of weeks) to his home in (and you have to forgive the spelling) Petralla sopranna or something like that, basically in the middle of the island, some lovely mountain roads and great food, I remember the trip from the ferry as he was in an old van, the roads up to his home town (not much more than a village really) were awesome, but as I was following I couldn't really enjoy them much, a few days later I took him pillion for a "spirited" ride around them again.........great fun.

Cheers Mark.
