hi,
just getting the bike ready for MOT as she has been standing through winter and spring. Oh bike is a 98 roundy shaped SV without the fairing. Most importantly its yellow ![]() First problem is dipped beam not working. Traced this to the handlebar rocker switch and now all is well. That was till I realised that when the lights are switched on (right handlebar switch) then there is no tail light or number plate light. On the middle light switch setting (small bulb in headlight _+ tail +number plate) all is ok. Brown lead that goes to the tail light is ok (this is from the park or middle position circuit). Then the nasty white with black thats supposed to provide 12v when main lighting is on is 0v at the back of the bike. Now the questions - 1.where the hell does this wire start from at the front of the bike? 2.Does it connect into the left hand high low beam switch? 3.Any likely suspects? I have had trouble with the kill switch and the hi\low rocker switches so I am happy to blame them but am a bit stumped. Thanks. Ells |

I'm not too good with wiring.
Main thing that will be said is check all the wires coming from your fuse box under the seat as they can wear through on the subframe leaving bare wires that blow lights/stop them working. |

As far as I can tell we are past the fuse box. The LH switchgear (high\low)is coming in at 12v and the dipped and main beam wire going out are at 12v. Fuses 1 and 2 that are high and low beam are ok. Somehow the wire running from the rear lights along the subframe to ???? (no idea where) would be the next stage.
I think its either going to be headlight bucket oe fuse box or the RH switch gear or somewhere else. Thanks. Mark. ![]() |

Read the manual (Haynes). In there it tells you how to diagnose lighting faults. It states tthat the faults are rarely due to faulty switches.
Please cross out the rarely in your manuals and replace with always. This is the third switch to "gum up" on me. Kill, Hi/Low, lights on/park/off switches have all failed so far. So 3 electrical issues 3 switches. ![]() Ells |
