Default Temperature question

hi everyone, this is my first thread so be gentle.

Ive just bought an 03 sv650 minitwin race bike, and was wondering what temperature than fan on the rad should kick in? i had it out at the week end, and someone said the ideal running temp is 72, i got back into the pits, it was around the 87-89 mark, and still no fan. out on track it was fluctuating between around 80-92. just done a quick search and found an american site which said the fan kicks in around 102?!?!?

any advice will be greatly appreciated!

most bikes (sv's), race or not seem to run in the 80's and as your racing thats nothing to worry about.

Yep fan kicks in at just over the 100 mark.

my SV runs in the 80's, and the fan does kick in after 100 (i got an analouge gauge, its not so accurate)

dont worry, your bike is staying nice and cool if it gets over 115, then think about letting the engine cool. If it gets over 116, then definalty let the engine cool. if it gets to 117, kill the engine and let the engine cool!

Remember the temp will go up to around 90ish before the thermostat opens, so the temp will then drop to the high 70s. The fan probably won't come on until the bike has been stationary and running for a while to get to 100ish.

Is it a track-only bike?
If so, why cart the weight of a fan around with you?

Depends on the class regs but in true minitwins regs you must not remove the fan.

In real terms it makes so little difference it isnt worth bothering on short circuits.

Who are you racing with Craggy?

Quite a few tracks in North West and Wales run mini-twins but depends where you are. Aintree, Anglesey, Three Sisters, Oulton Park, Tonfanau.
