well he may have been qualfied (degree)for a year, and have some sort of machine tool apprenticeship before it......but hes still making chocolate at Willy Wonkas
...its hard to get a good job in that field at the moment, especially if newly qualified.

I'm a mechanical engineer graduate and design engineering was part of the course.
Imo it was the worst part of engineering. Design engineering is all about the detailed design right down to the last and bolt and even aesthetic finishes etc. I'm far more into the doing the calcs. to see if things are strong/powerfull/light enough etc.. Someone else can then turn this info into reality for me. If you want to get a feel for design engineering see if you can get a copy of Engineering Design: A Systematic Approach by Pahl and Beitz - generally considered to be the definitive handbook in this discipline. |

WHat type of design engineering is it, I'm a mechanical bulding services engineer and have worked in all aspects of the trade, if it's in this field I can help you, also let me know the company and I might be able to give you some inside knowledge, the building serivces industry is quite close knit.
btw nuts and bolts engineering I ain't. |

Im a design engineer. Basically you will be looking at customer spec and producing drawings and calcs to make something that meets that specification.
Simple hey ![]() (well everyone seems to think its a pee easy job!) |
