Evening all,
Sorry to say that about a week ago I had some delightful gentleman cut across two lanes on a roundabout in a positive effort im sure to kill me ![]() Ended up going into the back of his left rear tailight and smashed it.. I stayed upright and just got a bit jolted.. Could have been ALOT worse as cars all behind me and at speed, but luckily managed JUST to get my hand on the wee brake lever in time to stop his stupidity turning into a very painful exp! Pulled over, had a "chat" with him.. left it at that. But on way home i realized that the front fairing (bike is 2004 pointy) points slightly right off centre. Ive checked the forks and front wheel, seem to be fine.. I think its the front fairing bracket or something... But not sure of its proper name (so can order the part)! Or if anyone has any ideas how to fix the "bentness" that would be great! Sorry, little bit of a useless post as I'm not with the bike to give any specific details, but can remember mostly what I saw! Just felt I needed to share my "oh sh!t, I don't need this on Tuesday night on my way back from the chippy moment" ![]() Thanks! |

Did you not exchange details at all? Or do you have his vrm at all?
I don't know full details of the incident, however would this not be not worth thinking about a claim against his insurance if he was at fault? Worth thinking about it there is damage involved. I have have no idea how to fix it, just legal stuff I know a bit about. |

The bracket is very easy to remove, your local friendly metal fabrication shop should be able to heat it up and straighten it in 5 minutes, had mine done before. wee tip, see if you can identify the bend before you remove it (easier to see on the bike) and take the fairing with you to check the bolt hols match up when straightened. Oh It does need heat to straighten, big hammer alone wont do it.

Ah excellent! Will defo have a good look when am back.. thought that was what it was and if it is as simple as getting it straightened up the no problem!
I got his no plate, its just at the time of incident.. only thing that appeared to be busted was his right rear lights and I thought as I had hit him from behind he could easily contest the claim and say I was simply too close (although had i been close i would have ended up squished his boot!).. was a little unsure at the time, and actually he seemed a genuine guy, but never know when the insurance papers come around! If its a simple as gettin it re-straightened, then no prob. If not then I reckon it might have to be a police jobby and make a report.. of course then the problem comes around that I didnt get in contact with them straight away! This fellow was of course an exception to all white van men.. who are clearly ![]() |
