The last couple of weeks or so, the front of my bike seems to shake/feel loose under certain conditions;
Hardish acceleration, Hitting bumps/rough roads Cornering and hitting a small imperfection in the road surface Its getting worse quite quickly, I had a massive moment today riding down the chevrons passing some slowish moving traffic, the front tyre was actually chirping as the bars shook and I smelt burning rubber afterwards! ![]() ![]() I had new tyres fitted last week, but it's not related for sure because it was bad before. No over changes have been made to the bike. I'm guessing the headstock is loose or something like that, feels like the wheel is coming loose when it happens. Errr, help oh mighty org?! |

Sounds like too much play in your headstock as you say. Stick it on a paddock stand and see how far you can pull and push the front wheel and forks back and forward. You may need to simply tighten it up or at worst need new bearings.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along to correct me if i'm wrong tho.

Good evening all.
There are many things that could cause the handling symptoms you describe. As Spiderman says start by checking the headstock for play in the bearings. Then work downwards & backwards checking your front & rear wheel bearings in turn. Then if all is well, start looking at your rear shock & linkages. It's worth checking that your wheels are in line, & that all wheel associated fasteners are tight it's not unknown for wheels to be misaligned &/or nuts & bolts to be left loose after a tyre fitting session. Cheers. |
