Default Anyone in Manc with a chain riveter?

Hi, just been putting the new chain on my bike, and the riveter I've borrowed off a mate is missing a large anvil so although i've pressed the side plates on I can't round over the rivets.

Is there anyone local to Manchester who doesn't mind popping round tomorrow with their riveter for 20 mins to give me a hand please?

Also, I think I've pressed the plates a bit too tight as the link is slightly stiff, will I be able to push them apart slightly before riveting?

I used a mole grip today to crimp my plates together , I then used a vernier Caliper to make sure the plates were the same as the neighbouring ones in width , I then used a pin punch to pein the edges over and released the mle grips and checked dimensions , was exactly the same so was happy with that and have gone for a test blast on it and all was fine . Tomorrow I will go to local bike shop and get them to rivet it properly for me as they are only a mile away and I can get there in a 30 zone so no need to give the bike any welly til I get there HTH .

Alternatively I have a split link under my seat with the clip on it , they come in handy as emergency items and getting a bike to a shop with the soft link in your pocket which they will rivet into place for you for a packet of biscuits of a Fiver

Hmm, where can I get a split link from, any motorcycle shop? I only got a rivet link with my DID chain.

If anyone local has a tool I can pick up and return same day?

I got a split link from eBay for a fiver , do a search for DID 525 Split Link . I did mine on Saturday and peined it over as I mentioned above . I took it to a local dealers today and asked them to rivet it for me to make sure , the guy took one look at it and said "To be honest mate you`ve done a bob on job there" . I asked him to check it anyway and he said that all they do is stick a lump hammer behind the link and hit the soft rivets with a Ball Pein hammer anyway . He gave it a few taps with this method and measured it with a vernier and said that it was a tenth of a millimetre out and what I had done was good enough , gave me a nice bit of confidance in my method .... although I am sure somebody will be along shortly to shoot it down

a tenth of a mm out, that's a shocking level of inaccuracy. i could have had it down to less than 50µm just by eye
