Hi, just bought myself a 2000 reg sv 650s, and saying hello.
Had a gsx600f but came off it last month and struggled to get my confidence back with it. Sold it last Sunday and bought the sv 2 days later! Seemed the right type of bike to try and get back on the road with. Confidence still shakey but at least i'm getting round bends at more than 10 mph. Have a few questions and queries to ask but will leave it for another day. Just to say it is really strange going to a v twin after owning in line fours, thought engine was misfiring when I first went to see the bike! Hope ive made the right decision to buy this as was thinking of jacking in biking. Cheers.sv 003.jpg Last edited by Jamesey; 16-07-09 at 10:12 PM. |

Hi mate and welcome.
You've made a good decision to continue and a good bike to do it on. I was in a similar situation myself. I 'd suggest to try and work out what went wrong to cause your first 'off' and learn to do it better, this is what I did. In fact the more you learn about how bikes work the better armed you are to make decisions (bikes are strange things). I found a piece written on here a while back from a guy in the states (called Nathaniel I think) which turned a number of lights on in my head and allowed me to better understand what I had been doing wrong. Unfortunately it does not seem to be available any more here. I have a hard copy of it and I seem to remember seeing it on one of my computer drives recently. Let me know if you want it I'll see if I can find it. |

Cheers,
I know what I did wrong, a little too fast into a right hander, fixated on the oncoming kerb, slammed on the brakes and went straight on and hit it. Went for a run this afternoon and nearly did the same thing again! But if youve any help it would be appreciated Merlin. |

Hello mate, good to see a curvy
![]() There's a few oogers going past Dundee on Sunday if you fancy a run: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=130260&page=2 First ride the bike, then ride it more and decide what you want to do with it. |

Welcome!
Some advice - slow down - go into turns slow, and come out fast (kitten in, tiger out) - if you think you arn't going to make the turn, push on the inside handlebar / pull on outside handlebar (i.e. counter-steering) and just go for it. The chances are strongly in the favour of getting round ![]() - dont bothter with suspension upgrades and brake upgrades yet. Certinaly, by all means, if the brakes seem lack-lusture in their performance, stip them, clean them, reassemble them! and now, some warnings - Bear That is all ![]() Last edited by Alpinestarhero; 17-07-09 at 02:57 PM. |
