Why , oh why..........
Do some folk with bikes placed on centre-stands also have/leave the sidestand down? BMW 800st parks this way next to me and i had thought this was some BM weirdo thing only as have seen many GS's parked this way, but the straw that broke the camels back is pic of a GPZ900R in MCN parked up the same way. I have had a coupla bikes with both stands. Never occured to me to have both stands down. Am I missing something here? Whats the secret? Please help or I fear I will not be able to digest my eleven-zzzzzz for worry. ![]() |

they are tall bikes, maybe puts side stand down to get off. then shows off by putting it on centre stand and forgets to put up side stand.

so he dosnt forget to put it down when he takes the bike off the centre stand? so he dosnt have to put it down when the bike is taken off the center stand, for fear of loosing stable footing?

Tbh it's probably just laziness. To put a bike on the centre stand you start with it on the side stand, push the centre stand down with your foot to touch one side of it down, then push the bike up straight so both feet (of the centre stand) are down. Then heave-ho and it's up on the stand!

I do it sometimes for security. (A bit weird really)
On the centre stand with side stand down in 1st gear and kill switch to off. If someones trying to steal it's something else for them to figure out before they set off. |

I used to get off the bike with the sidestand down, and then put the bike on the centre stand. When I came back to the bike it was handy to have the sidestand down as I rolled the bike off the centre sand just in case I lost my footing. I never flipped the sidestand back up because I just couldn't be bothered knowing I was going to flip it down again when I got back to the bike.

I always leave the sidestand down on my GS when I put it on the centre stand (which is virtuallly every time I park up for more than a few minutes).
The reason ? Well, the GS is very tall bike - and heavy too, especially when the fuel tank is full - so, in order to make life easier when getting on & off with the bike leaning slightly to the left I always do so with the sidestand down. As for 'security' ? Well, there is always the possiblity that if someone reverses into the bike and knocks it forward off the centrestand it will fall to the left and have the sidestand 'catch' it !! <looks around in the forlorn hope of finding a 'flying pig' smiley>
