Has anyone rushed out to buy this?
I want to & a few years ago I would've pre-ordered it etc but in the interviening years George Lucas has made me cynical. Remember when the Star Wars trilogy came out on VHS, then the cleaned up version on VHS, then the widescreen cleaned up version, then the Speical Edition with extra footage? Then they started to sell them singly so you then had the choice to buy only the Empire Strikes Back without getting the other two turkeys?? Well, I want to buy the Watchmen. I'll be moving into my new flat in August and I would like to have a proper blu-ray player and a flat screen tv. It occured to me that it would be perfect to christen my flat & my new entertainment system with a really good DVD i.e. Watchmen. Y'know - mark the occasion, make it special etc. I popped out to HMV today & they only sell the 155 minute version of the movie - that's the same one as at the cinema. I can't find the 162 minute version. Hmph....but this is the rub, I keep hearing rumours of a 185 minute (US) version and also a super-dooper-extended version that includes the Tales of the Black Freighter. So, I'm stumped. Yeah, I want to buy the DVD, but I don't want to be shafted because some marketing guy has realised that with a cult following this movie will sell loads & loads of each version so they're going to trickle feed us. I stopped by Star Wars stuff ages ago as I figured that Lucas wasn't going to get any more of my money to build another patio, I hope that this isn't gonig to be a similar cash-cow to be milked every few months! Anyone wanna loan me their copy? ;o) |

I enjoyed it but, I wouldnt say it is the most amazing film I have ever seen.
The camera work in the first 3/4 is amazing some lovely work, and then it feels like they just ran out of time, budget to be bothered to do the rest. However the second they forgott to carry on with the camera work, the story suddenly took off! (well what story line there was!) |
