Default Need help fitting a top box

Hi, I have recently purchased a second-hand top box with arms and plate (for a pointy).

My problem is fitting the arms, as I was only sent the two bolts which hold the arms onto the bike at the rear footpegs. I know that further up they connect to the grabrail, but not 100% sure how it works.

Is there some kind of spacers where the bolts hold the arms to the grabrail, and also do the two overlapping parts (the ones made from sheet steel that are welded to the arms) fit snuggly to the grabrail, or do you need some kind of rubber spacers?

Any advice, or especially pictures of the arms fitted to a pointy would be much appreciated.

Adam

See attached photo - not a pointy but thought it might help - took me a while to work out how to fit myself - it may not look the best but its practical!

Hope this attaches image - not done this before.

I've had probs with the bolts that hold the black metal bits onto the arms working loose, so I would definitely recommend using some loctite on them.

Same here - changed nuts to locking nuts - and added locking nuts to the main bolts - lost 3 fixings at one time - once bitten!

I fitted a Givi 46L top box to my curvy. There are two brackets which 'slot' and tighten into the hollow ends of the framework which supports the seats etc. I had to file out some of the crap Suzuki weld befiore the brackets would fit. I've had the fittings on since early 2007

Having been to France and Spain a few times and also on long distance rides in the UK, ie done some real riding as opposed to posing on the bike, I have found the topbox invaluable. I realise that it sort of visually unbalances the SV but so what? OK, if I was only interested in how the bike and I looked then I wouldn't even consider a top box. But then I'd probably have those dopey wheel rim strips on as well .... ;o)

there should be rubber bits which go under the metal that goes over the grab rail - inner tube does the job nicely. There are some screws which go under the grab rail at the back which lock into said metal pieces. locktite etc is worth while. - cant show photos as mine is now in the shed - only used in the winter for taking stuff to work.

Thanks for the replies guys, and also for the encouragement of buying a topbox! I' currently live in Italy and in September I am travelling all around the south of Italy before riding the bike back to home, possibly via Budapest and so will be invaluable for my travels.

As for the picture, thanks for that Tommo, although do you have a close up of where the arms are bolted to the grabrail?

Any further advice or pictures would be much appreciated,

Thanks,
Adam
