Default Instrument Panel - Indicator tell-tale light

Hi Fellow SVers

On my W reg 35000 mile SV650S in Black (you know, the fastest colour), slight problem - the indicator tell-tale instrument panel has stopped flashing and hasn't flashed for a while. I know it's an MOT failure for future reference, so could do with some guidance on how to fix.

Have an SV Haynes Manual, but I always find individual advice much better, particularly if someone has had the same problem themselves.

It was, at one point, intermittent when I put the indicators on, but now it has died completely. I'm no electrician - can do plugs, oil and pads, but that's it. Any assistance greatly appreciated, as always.

Tony, in drizzly Burnley

Yes, all indicators work perfectly. Every thing works perfectly apart from the instrument panel tell tale to inform you that your indicators are on - either left or right. It's an MOT fail if it doesnt work - ohh bugger!!

I do believe it's a ball ache to fix (from my impatient reading of the SV Haynes Manual). Any tips, tipsters?!

Thanks again

Tony (Today it be mostly overcast with sunny interludes)

Unfortunatly, you may have to dig the instrument panel out of there and check the bulb. It is a pain in the bum, I had my instrument panel lights go (just for the tacho and speedo on my oldie curvy) and i had to take off alll the fairings and everything just to get to the bulbs!

Still, once its done, its done. Check that there is no corriosion occuring and if you do go down this route, you could tend to all the electrical block connecotrs...clean them with electrical contact cleaner and then smear some vaseline before reconnecting, It'll go some way to stopping water getting in in the future. Might aswell take advantage of the situation eh?

Cheers Alpine.

As I suspected, no easy option to access it! Oh well?! Yes, you're right I will have to take advantage of the opportunity to check for corrosion as well.

It's just finding the time! Any ideas on the time needed to sort (assume I am a novice)?

Thanks again

Tony

yeah, gotta take the fairings off, then take the surround off, thats 2 screws and an allen key bolt on the front subframe, then theres 4 8mm nuts holding the panel on, take them off but be carful not to lose the washers as they kept falling off when i i took mine off and i fuond them hard to find. obv take the plug out, remove the big rubber cover and theres the bulbs

If i was you i'd replace all the bulbs while you're there, easier to do it while it's all apart I would also replace them with LEDs means they wont need replacing for a long time
