i was round at daveprestons house yesterday trying to fit my new rearsets, (by the way dave you are a gentleman and a scholar, thanx very much), the only problem we had was that the bolts holding my rearsets into the frame are stuck fast, we bent 3 allen keys and i snapped one today trying to do it again, anybody got any idea's on what i can do to remove them?
iv already tried rust buster and WD40 to no effect, and we tried an allen key fitment into a rachet set for more leverage, this also got twisted with the force any advice would be great cheers |

cut a slot in it with a dremel and use a screw driver.

Impact driver, works very well on stuck bolts.
Either a cordless one or manual one where you smack the end with a hammer and it turns the drive end a lttle. There are only about a tenner, shouldnt hurt the bolt either. Phil |

im a little worried about damaging the lugs on the frame tho, would an impact driver not possibly fracture or even break, this would write the bike off

Thats why a battery / electric impact driver would be better in that situation as it bangs lots of small bangs rather than a few bigger bangs ![]() |

Judicious use of heat can also be useful... or incredibly destructive in the wrong hands.

Has the bolt rounded out? Has the shaft snapped? As you've yet to remove the bolt despite leaning on it with a variety of tools it seems neither is the case, so why is the bolt 'crap'?
Looks like a great bolt to me, a crap one would be at least two pieces by now.

Huh? If an Allen Socket hasnt undone it then a screwdriver isnt exaclty going to help.
Now, this allen head on a socket. You was using a breaker bar wasnt you? Becarful though as its a cast frame and whacking it with hammers os a dangerous task. Try a little heat from a blow torch (Just a little mind) If you can get to the back of the bolt, then try it from here as well. It soudns like its corroded. Just a check, you are tyring to turn it the right way? |
