Default Is this an original part?

Hi was fiddling with my bike a bit today and thought i'd adjust my back brake light so it came on a little bit earlier, when i checked my haynes manual and looked at the bike they both seem different, I've found the mounting bracket for the brake switch it mentions but nothing is fitted. The cable goes straight from the brake unit and plugs straight into the bikes wiring.

No it is not original, you have 'rear-sets' with a hydraulic brake light switch, there is no way to adjust it apart from removing it and replacing it with one that triggers earlier.

Thanks
only fairly new to this and never noticed it when i bought the bike. Might sound daft but for what reason would the old owner fit them for, do they have any benefits over the originals

Pretty much that.

Might have been because dropped and broken footpeg/lever/hanger or might be just for looks or might be to move the peg position for a better/sportier/comfier position (depends on rearsets).

I personally for a road bike would prefer adjustable ones like the OSF ones on mine as they give more options, tbh the OSF ones are a bit 'nice' for track use.
