Noticed the bike was low on oil last night, and on stopping off where I could all I could find was Mobil Super S 10w-40 semi synthetic motor oil...so thought it was better than not!!
Turns out the bike only took 100ml - so not loads... Anyway, is this likely to do any harm, or is it fine to use?? On a side note - rode without earplugs tonight, and probably parnoid me - the bike sounds so noisy - engine, chain, etc!! I'm sure its an impossible question - but how noisy should it all be?? |

No
Car oils have friction inhibitors that may cause your clutch to malfuction

Thats correct, but having said that I doubt if 100ml would be much of an issue in the real world.Whens it next due an oil change? If its not too long I would not worry too much.

Should I be worried about 100ml going in ?? |

10w40 generally doesn't have the anti-friction stuff in it.
Be reet.

100ml is nothing at all, the sump on the SV has so much excess that you wont risk engine damage even if very low in the window when bike is centered, you will probally find that gearchanges become sloppy but its not critical to have it in the center all the time.
if you notice its low then just get right oil and use that, unless its so low that you have to lean the bike the opposite way to get any oil in the window if you were stuck somewhere with realy realy low oil then car oil is ok but it will mess up the clutch
