When lowering an sv do the dog bone links need to be shorter or longer?

no problem, a few other things to consider though if you are thinking of lowering the bike.

1. Try to make sure you adjust the front by the same amount. If the rear drops by 20mm then you really need to drop the front by the same amount to retain the proper attitude for the bike. This can be done by moving the forks further up into the tripple clamps. Take care not to move the forks too much otherwise the suspension will not have enough travel to work properly. You can check the current travel by fixing a plastic cable tie around the stanchion and then ride the bike through a typical route. The cable tie will reamain in its displaced position so you can check.

2. Top tip, dont be tempted to buy cheap replacement dog bones, quality is very important in these critical suspension parts. If they break (and cheap ones do) then you are very likely to have an accident.

3. You may need to modify or replace the side stand if you lower the bike excessively. With a stock sidestand it may not lean over enough to be stable.

If you havent already, then consider a replacement seat unit instead. Alot less hassle.

depending on your hight you might have to scoop a little more out the seat. if you do take quite a lot from the front bit of foam (almost till you hit the plastic) at the part where the tank meets the seat this lets you sit closer to the bars. i did but i'm only 5'1"

I agree with buying a lower seat, i bought one from my local suzuki dealer cost 32quid, they said it was only 10mm but it makes a hell of a difference because it becomes slightly narrower to, so your legs arent as far apart!

Or you could buy Datona Ladystar boots £300 give or take but you wouldnt have to lower another bike
