Default Rear Disc getting hot

Two days ago i put a new rear disc and pads on my k6

I have done 60miles a day back n fore to work on it since and the read disc itself is absolutley boiling hot after each run

Disc went on ok, no probs with the caliper when replacing pads and the wheel moves freely when turned on the padock stand, no noises or rubbing or anything

Also while i was checking the caliper/pads by moving the brake pedal with my hand i noticed the caliper seemed to be twisting towards the inside of the disc, Bit difficult to explain this one.. imagine yourself standing next to the bike so its on your right side and your looking at the caliper and pressing pedal at same time. The inner edge of caliper (sprocket side) seems to move towards the disc while the outer edge of caliper seems to be moving upwards

My dad says its normal because calipers need a lil bit of movement in them but why would the disc get boiling hot?

Hope someone can answer this

cheers matt

Either you're using tons of back brake before you stop, the rear brake pedal is adjusted badly enough the force the brake slightly on, or the rear brake caliper is binding.

As you've just replaced the pads, I'd assume that the rear caliper wasn't stripped and cleaned and the piston's not retracting smoothly.

I didnt even touch the back brake on way home today, 90percent motorway so no need to but the disc was still boiling when i got home.

As for the caliper piston, no i didnt strip and clean but i did push the piston out as far as i dare, cleaned it and put red rubber grease on and was able to push the piston back in with no trouble and you can see it moving when pressing brake lever

i hate bikes they are a pain in the arris!

ps: not really

Too much fluid in the reservoir perhaps?

How hot is hot? Can you light a fag on the disc yet?

I had the same problem when i changed pads.
Mine were just not seated properly due to the clip they sit in ( top of the inside of the caliper ) being slightly bent.

Could be worth a check?

Golden rule; If a problem develops after you've worked on something, go back to the last place you worked. Something isn't assembled correctly. Remove and refit and check each step is 100% correct.

same thing happend to me http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...highlight=fred i ended up modifying the front pin that the caliper slides on (by grinding a tad off it) that let the caliper "float" more freely and fixed the problem

How strange. Same happened to mine after a service last Friday.

I found the old pads hadn't worn evenly - there was a strange curved shape to the worn faces of the pads. New pads fitted and some freeing of the pins - the new pads then didn't press square on the disc at first - it has taken 250 miles to get anywhere near normal wear and for the disc to cool down.

its going to the garage on Friday for another look at the problem
