Question Advice needed for a smelly helmet

Hi All,

had a search for this topic with no joy - so posting for advice on cleaning the inserts of my Arai lid. I left my wet gloves in the helmet by accident after last weeks wet ride and now my helmet is a little funky to say the least. Any advice on how to wash the lining? Machine or by hand and at what temperatures etc??

Also - need a LCD backlit clock for my analogue CBR - fed up with guessing what time it is Any reccomendations? Seen the Oxford ones but they look a little too 'modern'.

Matt

A little non bio washing powder in the sink doesn't go amiss, if the inserts come out easy. Rinse thoroughly and drip dry on the washing line, or somewhere.

never done mine any harm. Inbetween a small amount of lenor or something has never done mine any harm

This is what I do...

Open all the vents, take the visor off your lid, buy some baby shampoo

Take the lid into the shower and moisten the inside, then rub the baby shampoo into the lining, then rinse it out with the shower head, but dont use really hot warm, warm / tepid water is best.

You'll be disgusted as I was at how grim the water is when you rinse it out, then hang your lid up somewhere and let it dry naturally....

Might take a day or two to dry out mind, so dont do it mid week if you use the bike to commute on...

Those DIY solutions all sound fine, but this takes about a minute and works...

You did a search on smelly helmets... Bet that brought up interesting websites.

If you were on about your crash helmet liner though, most can be removed and then washed on a 30degree cycle, stick a bit of stain remover or disinfectant type stuff in their too. I blathered mine in anti-bacterial spray, the same we use when the dog goes woopsie in the house. Covered the liner and stuffed it in the dryer, came out smelling fine.

I've got smelly boots, I've had to resort to blasting them inside with bodyspray as my colleagues' eyes were watering.
