Default Idle revs rising

Have a pair of (probably related) intermittant problems on me curvey.

The first thing is that sometimes when coming down from speed the revs will hang at about 2k before dropping down to idle. To give an example, slowing down from about 10mph, clutch in and braking, rather than ticking over at ~1500rmp it sticks at 2k. After sitting for a few seconds it usually drops back to 1500. I can force it to drop by letting the clutch out slightly and letting the revs drop to 1k before pulling the clutch back in.

Second issue is similar. After slowing down to a stop the engine will idle normally at 1.5k for a second or two, then surge up to 2k. When it does this no amount of clutch releasing or revving or bike-stopping (tried with the kill-switch at one point) will get the revs back down. However, after riding for as little as 5 metres it may have stopped.

Carbs were overhauled recently and new air-filter, but the first problem was happening last year, too. Seems to be worse in cold weather.

Thoughts?

  • Sticking throttle cable.
  • Throttle cable too tight. Ensure that you can move the bars from stop to stop while idling in neutral without the revs changing.
  • Sticking choke plunger / cable.
  • Vacuum leak.

Sounds like an air leak. I'd guess the carbs haven't been reseated properly?

Throttle cables are all fine, and choke plunger/cable is, too - all were recently checked+lubed. I did have a problem with a vacuum leak, but thought it was resolved - I'll recheck this later tonight.

Cheers

My pointy is a bit odd with its idle as well. Is it likely to be an air leak too?
