Default Front brakes, brake pads.

As above I was riding the bike this afternoon, my brakes just didn't feel right.

When I pull on the front brake, it comes back further to the handle bar than it ever has. The feeling and feed back is different as well.

The brakes feel spongy, not as sharp as they did and for what of a better sluggish. I'm not feeling the confidence I did before.

On the outside of the resesvior that sits on top of the brake system, there was a bit a resdiue as well, to me this equals bad. Is it?

I had a look at the front pads, I would they are about 1-2mm for wear bar indicators from sight, my rear one is almost out. Would this affect the opertaion of the brakes?

So I do need new pads, this is a road bike so whats best use for road? As well as changing pads, is there anything I need to do with them to ensure they work correctly?

Thanks.

Check the resesvior, first that sounds a bit dodgey.

Maybe worth a fluid change, doubt you would need to do your seals as bike is only 3 yrs old how many miles you done?

Also cable tie your brake lever back over night, worked for me and many others on the forum and is probably the most simplest and effective way of sorting out the lever problem

I'd service the calipers when you swap the brake pads makes a world of difference.

I'd first bleed up your brakes see if it makes a difference, then try the cabletie/lever thing and see what affect it has .

I followed the logical advice I got from yorkiechris (IIRC) on here and disregarded the bit about soaking the seals etc. in brake fluid, I gave them a coating of rubber grease. They're not the same as sv calipers you'll also want to clean the **** out of the two shaft bits that the caliper moves on (that's bolted to the forks)

As per holdups link & the above you'll need brakefluid, coppergrease, rubbergrease, brake cleaner, other cleaning equipment (toothbrush, rag etc)

I said to do the other stuff first though as I reckon it'd give you an indication as to whether you require seals or not.

I cleaned all the ****e & old grease out of them and regreased them, also gave the rubbers a coating of rubber grease in the hope it'd preserve them, stop them cracking -perishing etc.
