Default Not fat enough to jump start an SV?

Had battery trouble last week, left the bike idle and battery dropped pretty flat. Tried jump starting it with a mate pushing but letting the clutch out just locked up the rear. Jump starting only for heavy folk when roads are wet?

It's more difficult than an inline 4 for sure, but get the technique right and it can be done quite easy. I have had the unfortunate situation of having to bump start it every single time for a while. I soon learnt to get it done quite quickly.

You don`t have to be fat to jump start an SV . I`m 6ft 2 tall , built like a brick outhouse and I can lock the SV up , as Chris says , try 2nd or 3rd gear , I personally use 3rd . It very rarely ever starts because I have bumped start due to some sort of Fuel Injection starvation ............. plenty of spark and battery , just no Grummmblayy noise when the button is pressed .

If you haven't got enough juice to prime the fuel pumps you will never bump start it anyway.

I mean electrickery not petrol.

Is it just as bad on a Curvy then , dude , try a FI one ........ I was sweating like a glassblower`s backside in all my gear , huffing up and down the street like a kid trying to launch a kite on a windless day .

As above ..... needs to be 2nd (poss. 3rd gear) ....

Even on my old GN125 I needed to use 2nd ....

Im only 5'6 weigh about 10.5stone usually one swift movement works for me. Start by getting to a decent point to roll it down a hill to get it going, or use said friend to push. Stand on the pegs, turn the ignition on pull in the clutch kick it up into 2nd, let the clutch out as you remove both feet from the pegs allowing your behind to park firmly into the seat padding thanks to gravity. Rear will grip and naturally the falling movement will roll the throttle for you, hey presto! Bumped SV.

The only thing is ...... with the pointy (not sure about the curvey) ..... you need the clutch in to start the bike .....

Does letting the clutch out stop you starting it ??
