Hello all,
I'm new to the SV and trying to get back into biking (DAS next week ![]() Anyway I'm looking for some guidance to help find whats up with the bike, as a few nights in front of the workshop manual haven't got me far yet. I can spin a spanner ok but I'm just not sure where to start on this beast. So, symptoms: - Bike doesn't like starting from cold - Sometimes starts ok then slows until it dies - Idle isn't very stable, bounces around a few hundred rpms - No power when riding (my mate took it out to test for me) feels like it's not fueling right, timing? I believe the phrase was "You would have trouble out dragging a diesel Mondeo" - Sometimes (mostly while warming up) opening the throttle quickly starts to stall the bike until it clears Information collected so far: - Only mod is aftermarket can - IAT checks out ok as does wiring - ECT checks out ok as does wiring - Have reset the idle correctly according to service manual (1,300 when warm) - New plugs fitted (old ones show it seems to be fueling about right) - Throttle cable isn't correctly adjusted, full twist of the grip doesn't open the butterfly all the way (will sort this soon) - No FI light or fault code - Looks like TPS has been adjusted - should I check this? If so can I make/buy the 'dealer switch', which I assume just shorts something? Right I'm sorry I know that is a lot of waffle but hopefully someone can make some sense from the clues. Thanks for your time guys, Jynx |

Yes check the TPS. "dealer mode tool" is a bit of wire or a paperclip.

Thanks for the replies, I have been out in the garage tonight and have set the TPS as per the guide, thanks Holdup!
The TPS was definately out, it seemed ok to start but then the line went to the bottom. It's now been moved quite a bit and is switching at 1500RPM so pretty pleased with that. Unfortunately I haven't got my license yet so I can't take it out to test it ![]() http://www.thebiggame.org/crew/jynx/...nxSV171109.wmv Will try a cold start in the morning to see if that has improved but will get it tested again on Saturday. Anymore suggestions welcomed! Thanks for the help so far guys, Jynx |

Hmm hang on.
TPS is a factor of course, but it's just one factor of several. Get hold of the Service Manual for the K3, and start checking the throttle bodies and cold start settings.

that tick over looks a little low should be 1250 +/- 100 i think my wife's 650 was a little like that turns out one of the little rubber pipes on the sensor (no 16) that goes into air box had popped off might be worth having a poke around / look and while your in there have a look at the air filter and check carb rubbers are tight.
attached is pick of what you should have and may help you identify parts. http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/...EL_K3/K4/K5/K6)_ p.s her tps was miles off reset it and set up revs to 1250 and put pipe back on all was smoother than it ever was. Last edited by sz1; 17-11-09 at 09:06 PM. |

Billy: I have the service manual and have been looking through it but while the detail is pretty good there isn't really any 'troubleshooting' section. When you say cold start, which components are used for that? And what should I check with the throttle bodies?
Good link, thanks sz1 - I will use that to check the hoses ect |

Have update my profile now Holdup, good point. I'm in Southampton, just off the M27. Would be great if anyone can help, but I know it's a big ask.
Having looked at some more things last night I'm pretty sure my fast idle is doing nothing. I know my ECT is good so am I looking at the STVA as the cause? Are other sensors involved? |
