Thought I'd try and get the ball rolling and see if this concept works for us. Starting this Wednesday night at 7pm at the Hawes Inn, South Queensferry. I haven't been for a long time, but there's usually a few bikes there on a sunny summers evening. I'll be there until at least 7:15 so long as the weather's sunshine and showers, dry and cloudy, or better. I guess if the weathers bad, nobody will go, including me, but thats fine, you can't expect an informal weekly bike meet to be busy when it's raining. Go if you look out of the window, you fancy a ride anyway, and wouldn't mind some company. If somebody else turns up it's a bonus, and if they don't carry on with your ride, or if it's a good ride to get there anyway, turn round and go home. All you've lost is 15 minutes of your time and you've spent that wandering round the other bikes that are there, and/or having a beer, and/or getting some sea air and an ice cream. Post up that you intend to go if you wish, it might help kick off the first week and encorage folk to go, but this is not something that requires any advance commitment or an apology if you find you can't make it. People are only there because they wanted to ride somewhere that evening anyway, and the possibility of a meet up gave the ride some purpose. |

If then you swing by South Queensferry at about that time on a Wednesday just in case someone you know is there, you may be lucky to find a like minded SV Ecosser has done the same. The more often people manage to meet there, the more often people will try swinging past, and the more often folk will choose a Wednesday for a mid week run. Maybe it'll become a regular Wednesday evening meet when the weather is good I don't know if this will take off, but who knows until we try it? Quote:
The idea of South Queensferry is primarily for East Central Scotland SV Ecosser's to use as a convienient meeting point, but of course welcoming anyone else from further afield who feels like using it as an excuse for a longer run on a Wednesday night. |

Another great idea! I particularly like this bit...

Now we're going to need more than one of course, the Dundee contingent are already out, it's 50 miles of rubbish roads for the Weegies and I still don't really know where Melrose is so... I'm seeing a sticky - SV Ecosse Weekly Bike Meets - a bit of blurb just as Ralph has suggested, drop in, 15 minute window, no pressure, that sort of thing and then a list of locations. East Central - Hawes Inn, West - Carbeth Inn, that sort of thing. Of course, it could all lead to the greatest schism since Pope Leo IX said "Who's your daddy?" but got to be worth a punt. |

I won't be able to get out this Thursday as well as Wednesday (I've booked my babysitter for this week!), but there's three of you that could. But other weeks that would be great for me, as I'm dead central it gives me the choice of two nights when I could go out on the bike. For me that's only going to mean that I do more riding. |

Ace idea Ralph... Might well drop by. There's no one location that'll please everyone so there's no point in even trying, if we get a meet going for a few of us that's better than none at all and maybe it'll give other areas a kick to get themselves organised
![]() Nice to see people saying "I can't make that, lets do this as well" rather than just moaning ![]()

Turnout was a bit low at South Queensferry too, just me and some bloke on a silver VFR, but nobody from here. Nice to get out on the bike though!

this brings back memmories .. use to be one of the princes street mob... but that was a nightly thing. there was always at leist 10 of us and on some occasions there could be up to 30.. the cops wouldent move us on coz of the noise of all the bikes at once.. used to be a right good old laugh.. it was eventually put a stop to when they put dbbl yellows up.. shortly after that the wimpy closed...
anyway .. would love to do the haughs (another old haunt) but wednesdays are bad for me.. fridays are usually the best... but i will try to make it.. would be good to meet some of the folk from here. |
