The battery is under the rides seat.
Underneath the riders seat, is a black plastic infill on each side of the bike, undo the allen key headed bolts that hold those on and then pop them off. Then you should be able to see the bolts that hold the riders seat on. Undo those and lift the seat off. There might be a black plastic tray under the seat, I cant remember on your model year SV. If there is lift it of and out of the way and then you will be able to see the battery.

On the curvy you remove the riders seat by removing the plastic infil panels with an allen key, then remove the riders seat by removing the allen keys that hold that on.
Think its similar on the pointy too? Get yourself an accumen charger and the weatherproof charging socket, saves all this fuss and hassle. http://www.accumate.co.uk/

There are instructions how to get to the battery in the sv650 manual but the above answers are right also in the manual are instructions how to get to the toolbox/pouch which has the tools needed to get to the battery.
Hope this helps |
