Look after your front spark plug.

front one was quite wet when removed.. No idea how long ago these were checked or changed but no dobut its been a while

bikes not been starting so had a look, never knew they'd get this bad (no 10 points for guessing who was at the front) :

+ flush out the drain hole & use waterproofing grease when fitting ?

Mine looked the same afer intermitently conking out and limping home in torrential rain last year! Hubby put new ones in and sorted the drain hole out - also fitted a front fender extender just in case

first job I did when buying my curvy a few months back, a fender extender helps a fair bit though.

Well the plugs have been changed at least once, OE items are Denso IIRC.

The bit that's rusty isn't all that important, as it isn't one of the electrical contacts, however, it does suggest water's getting in there which will let it short out. a serarch for "front spark plug" will get you tons of advice on sealing it up so you dont have a repeat problem.

why is the front cylinder drain hole on the opposite side to the side that the kick stand is on? seems silly to me, perhaps there's a reason?

I think the camchain's in the way. -

but why the camchain has to be on the left, I don't know.

Probably because they use the same basic casting for both cylinders, then machine them to be either a front or a back.
If you think about it the exhaust exits at the front on the front cylinder and the back on the back cylinder so they are the opposite way round.

Cos not a lot will get into the front plug when the bike's not moving?

But it could mean water is able to sit on the left hand side of the plug hole when on the sidestand.

When you've put the new plug in (not before!) blow up the drain hole with air line or something.

Daube some grease around the plug cap, and a splodge up the drain hole too.
