Default Should I upgrade to windows 7?

Well its not as simplea question as it sounds...

I borrowed Windows 7 Pro from work (with permission, for testing ). Ive installed it and I got to say it seems nice! Being able to use 4GB of my nice expensive RAM is a bonus...

The problem I have is that for some backwards windows style reason I cant use the Work key for this computer so I can only use this copy for 3 days.

So do I:

A) Go back to good old windows XP or
B) Get Windows 7 Home retail box (£92, so not bad?) and install that?

Cheers for thoughts...

C) Keygen

The only good thing about 7 is that it runs a bit quicker. The features are pants imo

Yea, well I play games so getting Direct X 10 and 11 is a nice benefit, and as I say I can use another Gig of RAM.

To be fair as well I think that Microsoft will drop XP asap, I know they were hoping to not so long ago... well that was before Vista face planted the floor and everyone gave it the fingers.

Assuming your XP key is genuine, you may well be able to get Windows 7 cheaper than that by buying a upgrade only package, rather than retail.

I'm past the point in my life where I can be bothered with hooky software. You use it, it stops working after some update or another, you suddenly have to start looking for new keys etc. Microsoft paid a whole bunch of people to write the software, I think they're due some cash if you want to use it. If you don't want to use Microsoft, then use open source software.

Assuming your system's meaty enough I'd probably upgrade to 7. Simply because it's shinier. And isn't that what technology's all about after all?

I wasn't trying to rip MS off really. I wanted to see what it was like for a short while using work key... Back fired anyway. Im certainly leaning towards upgrading.

I dont think you can upgrade xp directly to Windows 7, Ive done some reading and it looks like you can only do it with vista. Besides, its probably for the best to have XP as a fall back... Just incase. heh.

Its kinda wierd, I feel a little centimental about leaving Xp behind...

If your hardware will take it go 7 but go OEM rather than retail, far cheaper. Unless you plan to reinstall on lots of machines retail has no advantage for a normal user.

Hardware should be more than fine Q6600 and 4GB of 1066MHz RAM, 9800GTX GFX...

Well I looked into that, and on the face of it that is quite right... Problem is with OEM microsoft lock it to the Mobo (and retail dont). I figure im likely to upgrade that at some point before I kick Windows 7 out so it might be a case of me shooting myself in the foot.

Besides, Windows 7 home is £92 retail, Windows 7 Pro OEM is ~£100. I can do without the small extra's Pro affords to be honest so Home is better all round at the price

You can get home as OEM too you know! £75
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173791

While strictly speaking MS do lock it to one MB its just a call, put in a few numbers and if that fails speak to someone, tell them that your MB broke and you've replaced it to get it unlocked again...
