After following Liam’s polishing thread I picked up some tip on polishing, which I used to polish up my USD forks prior to doing the front end swap in the next couple of weeks.
Forks were ok in standard trim no corrosion, but could look better Here's a before and after together. On the unpolished fork are the oringinal machining marks, which I had to remove using a detail sander & 80grit paper Then I used some 80 grit compound, followed by some 240 and then the green compound followed by the blue in my kit. It was nice to go from the 240 grit to the green as the chrome effect magically appeared. Here's the top yoke, it hasn't polished up so well, as the alloy seems to be of a different quality? But it'll do, it was pretty scabby Both forks together, luckily one had already been polished, as the one I did took nearly 3 afternoons to do, although some of this was waiting for the paint stripper to do its stuff. However this might have been time wasted, as I don't think the forks had any lacquer on them at all, as nothing was removed by the Nitomors? The one I polished is on the right

Dream on, you need the patience of a saint to do the forks
![]() Smooth stuff like the swingarm & yoke is a doddle compared to those barsteward forks. ![]() Plus I've got to clean up the down pipe after our last rideout ![]()
