Default Bike insurance

Just getting quotes for my upcoming renewal.
Basically, equity red star (through Swinton) want £444 for 39 yr old, 1yr NCB, 16 months riding experience, garaged overnight etc etc.
Found 1 on Go compare for £207 but with £450 excess, but they also quoted £8500, yes i havent added an extra 0, and another for £4500.
Why do they bother even quoting? Considering there isnt a single person who'd take that up being as its double the cost of the bike .
Tell your insurance about mods or not?
Bennetts and a few others wouldnt even give an online quote for mods.

Hi Phil, completed mine only yesterday, only 4 months old, Equity Red Star came out on all brokers, previously with Bennett's ERS quoted £224 for what "I" wanted, ended up with Churchills ERS again what "I" wanted £152, saving £72 on the same specification policy?? New custom I guess.
Fully Comp/3k miles/OAP/Legal/AccidenhospitalisationIOM?/Europe/Other bikes tpf etc

I did advise that I had modified the exhaust but, quote "as long as it is not a performance enhancement we do not list, AND most insurers will not quote on modified bikes due to the extensive and very poor level of workmanship" unquote.

Result...
Just phoned Swinton to tell them i didnt want to renew and guess what, they have found me a cheaper price.
£240 full comp but with £500 excess but for an extra £20 they will protect that.
So, grand total, £260 inc leather and helmet cover, legal protection.
Im ok with that tbh as not many were that much cheaper and its with AXA and not some p1sspot company i hadnt heard of.

Surely an engine rebuild doesn't count

I notified my insurance company of my new exhaust and they said something along the lines of they only replace like for like for the model, and won't pay out for the mod replacement...

Ring them, always ring them - much cheaper.
Depends on the insurer but if it doesn't increase power most say it's fine (no increase in premium) but they won't pay more for the items (if they were worth more than standard) in the event of a claim
