Default Question for the romantics

Seen as asking you lot is better than doing a road side census I thought I'd seek a wider perspective.

Thinking its time I popped the question to Abi, no not the can I have a new bike question, the BIG QUESTION "will you marry me" anyways she doesnt read this so its totally safe for me to share with you lot.

What I wanna know is:
She's having a birthday party next weekend all her friends and family are invited and I thought it'd be a good idea if I did a little toast to the birthday girl and then dropped onto one knee. Is this a good idea or would most people prefer it to be done in private?

secondly! I dont want to buy her the wrong ring, ages ago we joked how broke I was an that I'd never be able to buy her a ring an she said she didnt care she'd be happy with a Haribo ring provided it was the red band with the white jelly stone. Would people see it as sweet or cheap? OBviously we'd be heading out into the shops prob on that sunday to buy her a proper ring but at least it'd be one she could choose.

Hopefully the poll will appear. cheers all

feel free to add your wisdom, its not a strict poll.

hehe, you could produce the haribo ring first as a joke then whip out the actual one, a nice tale to tell in years to come

Good luck!

Wooooah freaky, I just went onto fbook after reading this and one of my friends has just joined this group http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?id...9652486?ref=nf

Bet Abi would be well chuffed she could become an official member LOL.

And what is it with everyone popping the question recently....You all been eating love soup or something?

matt, i recon private, then go choose the ring with her, you know if a man buys it it would be the wrong size, colour, type etc, a ring pull will suffice till you can both get down the shops.

OH yeah I should mention she's actually waiting for me to ask, she literally reminds me daily that she'd say yes and am I going to stop mucking around and just ask her.
Still if she did say no, its all HER friends and family so I could justpack my stuff up leave and never see them ever again. Not so bad.

The way we did it was...

...Peg said he'd like to take me to London. More specifically Hatton Garden.

...off Dizz goes to net and looks up Hatton garden, sees shiny objects

He also gave me a budget of what the maximum he'd spend would be. We spent many times looking in windows around here. I just happened to look in a window in Berrys in Leeds, and saw the one I wanted which was bang on his budget
We went in and I tried it on, he haggled a bit, and I walked out with a nice shiny new rock, a weekend away already arranged too.

Not exactly romantic, but practical, no point getting a ring she don't like, better for her to choose it herself, and you know she'll always be pleased.

Always good to be committed to the marriage

Good luck mate, I say private over a nice meal, no need for a real ring, once you've agreed get down the shops and buy her the one she wants
